Casting What-Ifs

  • Few casting what-ifs could be found; Roger Moore considering John Colby is interesting, but Caine is preferred.
  • A modern John Colby would have to play soccer, like a more working-man's Colin Firth.
  • Lloyd Bridges and Clint Eastwood were reportedly circling; Clint as Hatch would be a completely different, cooler movie with no comic relief.
  • Clint likely would not break the Irish goalie's arm; better if Hatch stays as trainer and backup goalie and the arm is broken in the match by Balman.
