- A participant could have used more football, a game in the third act: as in Varsity Blues, there is usually a last game for redemption, which never comes because Steph is off the team; that is the backup weak link.
- The fix offered is an earlier game as the second scene: after Steph wakes up, has his cereal and goes to class, that night is a 38 to 10 blowout, the game before the game, four minutes of football kicking somebody's ass that would also have shown their home field.
- Football movies need two games minimum, the first big success before the setback and the redemption; Any Given Sunday has like six.
- The other weak link is Bosco: the team's biggest booster and town bad guy, a bully boozer who emcees the pep rally in a three-piece suit, walks the hallway in a cafeteria apron, bitches at the pub after the game and then trashes the coach's house.
